The question: Which position group are you most worried about heading into training camp?It probably won’t shock you to hear that, in a landslide, Falcons fans are most worried about the state of the EDGE group.Atlanta is heading into camp with a thin group on the edge, particularly with the injury to Steven Means. Let’s take a quick look at who is currently under contract:Vic BeasleyTakkarist McKinleyAdrian ClaybornJohn CominskyChris OdomDurrant MilesAustin LarkinThe team clearly has a lot of faith in Vic Beasley and Takk McKinley to be the top two guys. That faith is warranted for McKinley Youth Giorgio Tavecchio Jersey , who led the team in sacks with 7.0 and had an exceptional pressure rate in 2018. With Vic Beasley, who the team gave a $12.8M fifth-year option, it’s much murkier—since a breakout 2016 with 15.5 sacks, Beasley has failed to make much of an impact and has struggled mightily as a tackler.Behind them, Atlanta re-signed the dependable and versatile Adrian Clayborn—who had his best season ever under Dan Quinn in 2017. But after him, there’s nothing but question marks. John Cominsky, one of the Falcons’ fourth-round picks in 2019, is a great athlete but is extremely raw. Chris Odom impressed during the 2017 preseason before having a standout 2018 season in the AAF, but otherwise hasn’t been able to stick on an NFL roster. Durrant Miles is a promising UDFA who shouldn’t be counted on for anything outside of developmental depth. Recent signee Austin Larkin is a raw player who was apparently turning heads at the Dallas Cowboys’ training camp in 2018. Otherwise, Larkin is a total question mark.DT is, in my opinion, much stronger than EDGE. Unfortunately, the hit was penalized for roughing the passer. However, the important part is how Winovich used a rip move on the inside hand of the tackle. Winovich takes another inside route to the quarterback. He attacks the right arm of the offensive lineman, but shows a decent ability to convert speed to power. Winovich displays a stab and rip move as he forces the quarterback off his spot. His pass rush arsenal is not fully refined, but his rip move is effective. There were questions about Winovich’s athleticism. He answered those concerns at the Combine. Furthermore, his excellent agility scores show up on tape. Winovich has decent bend when he’s executing a speed rush. On each of these rushes, he has to convert speed to power as he engages with the offensive tackle. The dip and flexibility to turn the arc is highlighted on each rush. He doesn’t have a great first step though. This isn’t surprising as his vertical and broad jumps Stitched David Mayo Jersey , which measure explosiveness are below average.Winovich’s athleticism is also on display when he’s in space against a running back. He closes down the space by taking the right angle and then his burst to hit high gear. As a run defender, Winovich has a strong pop at the point of attack. He’s able to meet the pulling guard with plenty of force. He sheds the block and finishes the tackle for loss.Winovich has the length to easily stack and shed in the run game. He gets engaged with the blocker, but he’s able to utilize his hand use and leverage to shed the block. Winovich cleans up the run on the backside. Fit with CarolinaThe Panthers just signed Bruce Irvin to a one-year deal, but they still need to elevate their edge rushing talent. Their defensive line coach, Sam Mills III, attended Winovich’s pro day in Ann Arbor. It’s not surprising that there is mutual interest. Winovich is a twitchy edge rusher who plays with a high motor. In addition, he has the strength to set the edge or attack the ppint of attack in the run game. Winovich’s pre-draft rise reminds me of T.J. Watt a couple years ago. I doubt he’s available when the Panthers select in the second round, but if he is they have to send in the card ASAP.

Offensive coordinator Norv Turner and quarterbacks coach Scott Turner attended Thorson’s pro day in Evanston. They also have a top 30 visit scheduled with Thorson according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network. There is no question that there is a high level of interest. The question is how soon should the Panthers or any team draft him? The earliest he should be considered is the sixth round. NFL coaches especially on the offensive side of the ball have an arrogance about their coaching ability. They see a quarterback like Thorson who has the build, tools, and high character and they assume that they can develop him into a worthwhile player. Thorson has shown that he can work the pocket. He shows a good feel for this speed rush, steps up, and drops a beautiful ball in the bucket for a touchdown.He was an efficient thrower in the middle of the field for the Wildcats. If the offensive line gave him a clean pocket Blue Dontari Poe Jersey , then he can rip throws like this.The inconsistencies were a large part of his game though.On this throw, Thorson does an excellent job of manipulating the pocket, keeps his eyes downfield, and then shows a sound release. The problem is his deep accuracy is concerning. It’s questionable that Thorson managed the pocket well on this play. He is reading the three level concept, but he should not force this throw. He’s rolling to his weak-side and then just lobs it for grabs.Thorson has a completely clean pocket, but again his deep accuracy lets his receiver down. This ball should be led further and towards the sideline hashes. Throwing deep balls is hard! I’m not expecting perfect accuracy from any quarterback on these throws, but Thorson has a collection of misses.Thorson also has a habit of abandoning clean pockets, which is infuriating to watch.He has an opportunity to step up and create a different angle if he steps into the void left by the left guard and tackle. Instead, Thorson rolls to his right and barely gives his receiver an opportunity.Thorson doesn’t have the upper body strength to make an accurate throw when his base isn’t set. It’s not a coincidence that the best young quarterbacks have this trait. On the second throw, again Dontari Poe Jersey 2019 , he had no business leaving the pocket. He has to realize his limitations and play within the confines of Northwestern’s offense.Even when Thorson isn’t pressured, he shows awful accuracy. The pass rush speeds up his internal clock, which causes him to rush his process. This led to poor footwork as he attempts to throw this crosser. The final area that Thorson shows serious concern is anticipation. In my opinion, this is an area that can’t be taught at the next level. If quarterbacks don’t have the processing speed and quick trigger at the college game, how are they expected to learn it in the NFL against complex defenses and better athletes?Thorson had a -0.15 EPA per drop back in 2018. There are moments when he can make some decent throws, but overall he limits his offense with his inconsistencies as a thrower.Fit with CarolinaSuffice to say, Thorson would be competing with Kyle Allen and Taylor Heinicke for the backup role. Allen displayed some quality traits in his lone start last year, which should make him the clubhouse leader. The Panthers shouldn’t consider Thorson until the sixth round. He has a long way to go before he enters the competent backup role in the NFL.

The Washington tackle comes to the NFL is a strong, mobile and capable player, but many scouts think he’ll fit best at guard over the long haul. Given that the Falcons cannot have just signed two guards and then drafted two of them, though, I bet McGary is coming in to take over at right tackle, relegating Ty Sambrailo to swing tackle duty. McGary was considered a potential first rounder, making this pick a bit less surprising than Lindstrom, but he was not the tackle I would’ve expected Atlanta to grab Julio Jones Falcons Jersey , especially with those concerns about his ability to handle speed off the edge and his medicals (heart arrythmia, which he reportedly has been cleared to play with). There’s little doubt he’s more talented than Sambrailo, though, and maybe just a smidge more doubt that he’ll be a real upgrade over him in 2019. Long-term, the Falcons have now secured two high-upside linemen who both will have fifth-year options, which is smart roster building if both of those guys work out.I’m less certain McGary will than Lindstrom, and I’m very wary that the Falcons have forced themselves go get a tackle after the huge run on them late in the first round. I don’t know the team’s board, so the hope here has to be that McGary was their guy all along and this isn’t Sam Baker 2.0. If he is and those concerns about his footwork and lateral agility prove to be overblown, McGary will be a long-term starter at right tackle, and the Falcons will suddenly be stocked with above average-to-great tackles and at least one guard. I am really excited about the growth of these two young receivers, especially as it pertains to their on-field relationship with quarterback of the future Josh Rosen. They both look to be a great fit in Mike McCoy’s more conservative, short and intermediate passing game offense. Say goodbye to your Survivor pool! But let’s face it Troy Hill Jersey , nobody was picking the Bills to win that game. And more often than not, you should expect the better team(s) to win. Spend the rest of your week listening to them blabber about experience vs. inexperience, or whatever it is they’re talking about.
